• Trips and Tramps in Style

New Zealand’s great outdoors is best experienced on foot, locally known as ‘tramping’ and by far the best place to do this is the huge Fiordland National Park. Fiordland Lodge is located just outside the town of Te Anau in the style of a rustic wilderness fishing lodge and offers just 10 rooms.

Meet your driver on arrival in Queenstown and transfer to your hotel.  Check-in to rest and recover after your long flight.

  • Day 03 - Queenstown / Te Anau - Fiordland Lodge

Morning after breakfast, drive to Te Anau (175 km / 2h20m). Check-in to Fiordland Lodge. Then travel by helicopter over lakes, beech forest and alpine area to Luxmore Hut. From here, explore the alpine tussock fields and enjoy a picnic lunch with panoramic views of the surrounding Fiordland Mountains. Hike down the mountain on the well formed Kepler Track. The track descends through mountain and silver beech forest, and passes under towering limestone bluffs to the sandy beach of Brod Bay (approx 3 hours walking). Here a boat will pick you up to cross the lake back to the lodge.

  • Day 04 - Fiordland

Morning pick-up from the lodge and travel along the spectacular Milford Road to Milford Sound. Join a Nature Cruise on the Sound, up to the Tasman Sea. The cruise provides excellent viewing opportunities and plenty of time to view waterfalls, rainforest, mountains and wildlife. After the cruise, enjoy a series of nature walks with the guide in a range of different environments. For a longer hike option, follow the clearly marked track for a 2.5 hour walk to Key Summit on the Routeburn Track. This walk ascends up through lush beech rainforest and into the alpine environment. Return on the Milford Road to the lodge.

  • Day 05 - Fiordland

Today is a more challenging tramp to Lake Marian. This morning begin with a spectacular scenic drive along the Milford Road to the Lower Hollyford. There are opportunities for short nature walks and photographic stops along the way. The hike starts with a walk alongside a series of waterfalls, then steepens and becomes rocky underfoot as it ascends through a lush forest of fuchsia, ribbonwood and beech trees. Stop for photographs, bird-watching and enjoying the scenery are made along the way. Arrive at Lake Marian after walking for 2-3 hours. This alpine lake is situated in a hanging valley surrounded by steep, snow clad mountains. As weather permits, enjoy a picnic lunch at this inspirational location and relax in the magnificent alpine amphitheatre before descending back down the track to the Hollyford Road and returning to the lodge by coach.

  • Day 06 - Fiordland

Today is a free day at the lodge.  Consider one of the many optional tours available; but if you find the choices overwhelming, our suggestion would be:

Dusky & Doubtful Sound Heli Tour  $770 per person
Dusky Sound is the largest and most spectacular of the fiords, but the least accessible. Not a problem by helicopter!  A landing is made at Mt Pender to view this area encompassing 365 islands; the helicopter is shut down so that you can experience the beauty of solitude of this special area.  Then overfly 3 more fiords before descending Crooked Arm into Doubtful Sound. Flying up this Fiord we detour into a unique hanging valley known as Campbell’s Kingdom, complete with its own lake & waterfall. The return journey overflies the Main Divide of the Southern Alps with a second landing at Mt Kidd, a remote alpine location with dramatic views.

  • Day 07 - Fiordland - Queenstown

After breakfast, depart and drive back to Queenstown.

  • Day 08 - Queenstown

    Free day in Queenstown.

Located in Central Otago in a lakeside bay, Queenstown is New Zealand's premier alpine resort. Rich in history, and abundance of recreations and a breathtaking natural beauty that lends each season its own distinct complexion, Queenstown has long been the inspiration for artists and nature-lovers from all over the world eager to capture its dramatic beauty.

  • Day 09 - Queenstown / Auckland / Hong Kong
